Olivia University Hosts Major Academic Programme Review Workshop Presided Over by CNES and Ministry of Education
In a major milestone for academic advancement, Olivia
University successfully hosted its second comprehensive Programme Review
Workshop at its main campus on May 20, 2026.
The workshop served as a critical benchmark for evaluating the university’s curriculum, ensuring that its academic offerings remain modern, practical, and fully aligned with national standards.
An Official Launch by the Vice
Chancellor
The workshop commenced promptly with opening remarks from
the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanja Michael Mutongw’a (PhD), who officially
launched the review process.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor extended a warm welcome to all distinguished guests, expressing his deep gratitude to the evaluation team and officials from the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research, the National Commission for Higher Education (CNES), and the gathered panel of industry experts.
A Strong Foundation of Accredited
Programs
During his speech, Prof. Sanja confirmed to the Ministry
representatives and expert panels that all programs under review are fully
accredited by the government. He highlighted the extensive academic footprint
of Olivia University, spanning four core faculties and their specialized departments:
- Faculty
of Computing & Sciences: Departments of Cyber Security, Computer Science,
Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, and Software Engineering.
- Faculty
of Engineering & Technology: Departments of Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering,
Telecommunication, and Architecture.
- Faculty
of Management & Social Sciences: Departments of Banking and Finance, Economics,
Business Administration, and Accounting.
- School
of Health Sciences:
Comprising the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The Vice Chancellor noted that while the government is currently reviewing the Medicine, Surgery, and Nursing programs on a nationwide scale across all universities, Olivia University’s focus for this specific exercise was the thorough review of its Pharmacy programs.
A Collaborative Network of Local and
Global Experts
The review process stood out for its highly collaborative nature, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders. Local experts represented the banking sector, various government ministries, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), research centers, hospitals, and industrial and pharmaceutical corporations.
In addition to the physical attendees on campus, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the global reach of the exercise. Several international experts participated live online from Europe, Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda. These global academics and professionals provided valuable insights into specialized fields, including Mining Engineering, Telecommunication, Architecture, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, and Software Engineering.

Review Process
The workshop concluded on a highly positive note following
rigorous, department-level assessments. Based on the guidelines of the Higher
Qualification Framework, the officials from Higher Education ran a conclusive
evaluation.
The delegates and experts unanimously consented to the approvals by a show of hands in a warmly charged atmosphere.
Upon this unanimous agreement, the officials from the
Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research formally pronounced the
review exercise as successfully conducted. The ministry representatives
commended the university, noting that the entire process strictly adhered to
government-laid policies, the strict validation criteria, and the required
Higher Degree Qualification Framework.
