Olivia University Hosts Major Academic Programme Review Workshop Presided Over by CNES and Ministry of Education

In a major milestone for academic advancement, Olivia University successfully hosted its second comprehensive Programme Review Workshop at its main campus on May 20, 2026.

The workshop served as a critical benchmark for evaluating the university’s curriculum, ensuring that its academic offerings remain modern, practical, and fully aligned with national standards.

An Official Launch by the Vice Chancellor

The workshop commenced promptly with opening remarks from the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanja Michael Mutongw’a (PhD), who officially launched the review process.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor extended a warm welcome to all distinguished guests, expressing his deep gratitude to the evaluation team and officials from the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research, the National Commission for Higher Education (CNES), and the gathered panel of industry experts.

A Strong Foundation of Accredited Programs

During his speech, Prof. Sanja confirmed to the Ministry representatives and expert panels that all programs under review are fully accredited by the government. He highlighted the extensive academic footprint of Olivia University, spanning four core faculties and their specialized departments:

  • Faculty of Computing & Sciences: Departments of Cyber Security, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, and Software Engineering.
  • Faculty of Engineering & Technology: Departments of Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Telecommunication, and Architecture.
  • Faculty of Management & Social Sciences: Departments of Banking and Finance, Economics, Business Administration, and Accounting.
  • School of Health Sciences: Comprising the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The Vice Chancellor noted that while the government is currently reviewing the Medicine, Surgery, and Nursing programs on a nationwide scale across all universities, Olivia University’s focus for this specific exercise was the thorough review of its Pharmacy programs.

A Collaborative Network of Local and Global Experts

The review process stood out for its highly collaborative nature, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders. Local experts represented the banking sector, various government ministries, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), research centers, hospitals, and industrial and pharmaceutical corporations.

In addition to the physical attendees on campus, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the global reach of the exercise. Several international experts participated live online from Europe, Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda. These global academics and professionals provided valuable insights into specialized fields, including Mining Engineering, Telecommunication, Architecture, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, and Software Engineering.

Final Verdict of the Programme Review Process

The workshop concluded on a highly positive note following rigorous, department-level assessments. Based on the guidelines of the Higher Qualification Framework, the officials from Higher Education ran a conclusive evaluation.

The delegates and experts unanimously consented to the approvals by a show of hands in a warmly charged atmosphere.

Upon this unanimous agreement, the officials from the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research formally pronounced the review exercise as successfully conducted. The ministry representatives commended the university, noting that the entire process strictly adhered to government-laid policies, the strict validation criteria, and the required Higher Degree Qualification Framework.

Conclusion

Having successfully met all necessary national and regulatory requirements, Olivia University has officially been cleared as eligible to conduct its upcoming student graduation ceremony, marking a triumphant new chapter for the institution’s pioneering cohorts.
